Roseanne Barr rips Angelina Jolie and the kids

Roseanne BarrIf you thought 'funny' lady Roseanne Barr had quietly disappeared to wherever it is that loud, opinionated comedians disappear to, you were wrong. She's still out there and she's still making her opinions known. A few days ago, she posted a rather nasty piece on her blog taking aim at actor John Voight, his daughter Angelina Jolie, as well as Brad Pitt and the kids.

Barr appears to be angry that Voight isn't supporting Barack Obama and that Jolie has said she likes McCain but is undecided as to who will get her vote. According to Barr, that makes Voight a "frightened little girl in a pink ballet tutu" and Jolie his "evil spawn." Brad did not escape Barr's wrath either as she refers to him as Jolie's "vacuous husband."

Addressing Jolie, Barr writes: "....it might be good for your Asian and African children's self esteem to know you support a brown man for the leader of the free world. How nice of Barr to be so concerned for the self-esteem of the Jolie-Pitt children. It is unfortunate that she refers to their biological children as "dunces that will consume more than their fair share and wreck the earth even more."

Of course, Barr is entitled to her opinions and her political point of view, but I am just not sure what she was trying to accomplish with this rant. Calling someone an evil spawn and referring to their children as dunces is probably not the best way to bring them around to your way of thinking.

Suri Cruise STILL sporting a baby bottle

Suri Cruise is nearly two and a half years old. Heaven knows you couldn't forget that if you tried. And while she has more fashion sense than pretty much any other tot on the planet, there is one thing that seems to still give us all pause. No, it's not how her celebrity parents could have actually spawned her, nor is it how much is spent keeping her best-dressed and -tressed. Nah--it's that thing where she's still carrying around a baby bottle.

Yes, still. It seems like this first made the news when Suri was more than a year old and still using a bottle. Like sippy cups are so great. Now she's making headlines again for still sporting the baby bottle--when she's not even really a baby. My question is this: what is the big deal? My kid is nearly seventeen months old and he still occasionally uses a bottle. We've tried really hard to break him of the habit, but, for a while, he simply eschewed the sippy cup. He could use one, sure, but he couldn't get the same amount of milk from the sippy as from the bottle. So, we let him roll with it. Eventually, he switched over to predominantly using the sippy.

I know there are standards and practices for how we're supposed to raise our children. I know that guidelines have been set to help us make our way through this crazy maze called parenthood. But with issues as large as world hunger, violence, abuse and immunizations out there for us to tackle, why does anyone give a rat's butt about whether or not Suri Cruise still uses her baby bottle? I feel sorry for Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes--they're busy people who are trying to raise a kid and have full-time jobs too. it ain't easy. And not every kid fits the model she's supposed to. Is it really the end of the world if Suri still uses a bottle?

Hanson babies just keep coming

taylor and natalie hansonJust last month, eldest Hanson brother Isaac and his wife Nikki had their second child, a son named James Monroe. That brought the total number Hanson babies to six, but not for long. Middle Hanson Taylor, 25, and his wife Natalie, 24, have announced that they are expecting their fourth child this winter. "Each of our kids has made life richer and more exciting," say Taylor and Natalie. "We can't wait for this guy to join the party."

The Hanson brothers aren't just hanging around making babies with their lovely wives, they are also gearing up for their Walk Around the World Tour, which begins next month. The guys aren't actually walking around the world, but they want to encourage their fans to do some walking of their own. With the goal of reaching a total of 24,902 miles (the equivalent of once around the globe), the Walk Around the World campaign is working to fight AIDS and poverty in Africa one mile at a time. To learn more about hosting a walk in your town or joining Hanson on their walk, check out Takethewalk.net.

Who ever could have imagined that those cute boys who sang MMMbop would turn out to be such great family men and philanthropists?

Rumer Willis not wild about her unusual name

Although it appears to be happening with greater frequency, celebrities giving their children unusual names is not new, just ask Frank Zappa's kids: Moon Unit, Dweezil, Ahmet Emuukha Rodan, or Diva Thin Muffin Pigeen. What is rather unique is hearing what it was like growing up with such a unique moniker.

Rumer Willis, oldest daughter of Demi Moore and Bruce Willis told the New York Post that around the age of 12 she realized she had been given a raw deal name-wise.

"My sisters, Scout and Talullah, had cute nicknames," said Rumer, who apparently had no such luck. "In school, kids would sing, 'Rumer, Rumer with a big hairy tumor.'"

Even aimless doodling on notebook paper didn't work out for the superstar celeb spawn. "When I was 12 and had crushes on guys, I'd put my first name with their last name, but it never sounded right. Rumer Depp? Nope."

Poor kid. She didn't even mention the complete absence of mass-produced personalized key rings available for Rumers at gift shops!

Ali Lohan - did she get breast implants at 14?

Ali LohanHave you seen these pictures of Lindsay Lohan's little sister, Ali? Look closely at her chest in both photos and you will notice a big difference. Taken just months apart, the latest picture shows Ali with undeniably larger breasts. This, of course, has the rumor mill flying. Ali has made no secret of wanting to be a star and her mom is obviously on-board with the plan. Did Dina Lohan really allow her fourteen year old daughter to get breast plants in an effort further her career? Or did Ali have one heck of a growth spurt over the summer?

Responding to a paparazzo who asked about the rumors, big sister Lindsay Lohan insists that their mother would never allow it and accuses the guy of being a pedophile for even asking.

I don't think the question makes the guy a pedophile, but it does ignore an obvious answer to the riddle that is Ali Lohan's breasts: a really great bra. Grown up girls wear them all the time and I know from personal experience that the right bra can transform an ordinary B-cup into a rather impressive C-cup. And while a padded, push-up bra is certainly better for a fourteen-year-old than breast implants, I still wouldn't let my kid wear one. But maybe Dina Lohan would.

Matthew McConaughey will plant his son's placenta

Matthew McConaughey and Camila AlvesMatt McConaughey's bongo drums aren't just for show; the man is earthy and he's not afraid to show it. His costars have to learn to put up with his "natural scent," since he refuses to wear deodorant. And after the birth of his son Levi in July, he saved the placenta to plant at a later date.

"It's going to be in the orchards," he told CNN's Dr. Sanjay Gupta, "And it's going to bear some wonderful fruit." The new dad apparently got the idea from a trip to Australia, where he met a tribe who had a placenta tree where all new babies' placentas are buried.

Honestly, I don't care what people do with their children's placentas. But don't Matt and Levi's mom, Camila Alves live in a motorhome? Where do they keep that thing -- next to the frozen breastmilk in the freezer? I can't be sure, but I'm guessing sharing a home and parenthood with Matthew means never having a dull moment.

Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban want paparazzi to leave their baby alone

Nicole KidmanUnlike other celebrity parents with new babies, Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban have chosen not to sell pictures of their new daughter, Sunday Rose. In fact, they would prefer that the paparazzi not photograph her at all, and are asking for a little space while they spend time in Kidman's native Sydney. The couple used decoy cars and kept Sunday under wraps when they arrived in Australia recently.

"She's like a doll," Kidman told a Sydney radio station, "She's like a little, little thing. Just (don't photograph) right in her face or in our faces, because it's scary for her."

I remember when my girls were born that flash photography made them flinch, and I was constantly telling my husband to STOP TAKING PICTURES. (Thank goodness he didn't listen, or I wouldn't have any photo memories of those early days). I can't imagine what it would feel like if strangers were constantly jumping into our faces to snap photos and making my baby cry. New motherhood gives you that mama bear feeling, and Nicole is obviously very protective. Hopefully, the paps will give them the space they're looking for. I'm sure Sunday Rose is a gorgeous baby, but really, is it that important that we all get a glimpse of her?

Jenna Jameson - pregnant porn star

Jenna JamesonEven if you have never watched an X-rated movie, chances are you have heard of Jenna Jameson. Considered to be the world's most famous porn star, Jameson began her exotic film career in 1993 to get back at a cheating boyfriend. Since then, she's become famous not only for having sex on camera, but for ClubJenna, the porn film company she founded in 2000.

Earlier this year, Jameson officially retired from 'acting' and is now moving in an entirely different direction with her life. A source says that Jameson and her boyfriend, Ultimate Fighting Champion Tito Ortiz, are expecting their first child. She and Ortiz have been dating since 2006 after meeting on MySpace.

Jameson hasn't confirmed the pregnancy yet, but has made no secret of her desire to be a mother. She suffered a miscarriage when married to Jay Grdina and later failed to get pregnant via in vitro fertilization.

Becoming a mother is a wonderful and life-changing event and I am happy for Jameson in that regard. But I have to say that I feel sorry for the child. At some point, that kid will have to be told about mommy's past. And then what? Does the child follow in the family business? Or does the kid rebel and run off to college to study accounting?

Brangelina babies revealed!

After nine long months, the genetic perfection that results when Brad Pitt DNA combines with Angelina Jolie genes has finally been unveiled. Have you seen the itty bitty babes yet? The photos are at People and Hello!, go ahead and take a look first. I have time!

Okay, ADORABLE, right?! The wee Jolie lips? That teeny smile! (How do they get newborns to do that, anyway?! Sean Preston was smiling for his People cover too!) Momma and Daddy looking so happy and adoringly at their new babies! The inset at the top of doll-baby Shiloh holding a baby! IT'S TOO MUCH GOODNESS!

But after the first ovary-exploding viewing, I took another look and what really stood out was the WHITENESS. Brad's shirts are snowy. Angelina's top/dress/nightgown is pristine.. The baby's clothes and blanket are devoid of color. Shiloh's dress is like an angel's wing.

I can accept that Angelina gave birth three weeks ago, yet is down to one chin and has no dark circles under her eyes. I can accept that Brad, who is helping wrangle the four other kids in the house, is clean-shaven, save for the ridiculous growth on his chin that appears intentional.

What I cannot fathom is purposely dressing newborn twins, a two-year-old,and the adults caring for them in pure white and having the entire group remain devoid of bodily fluids, peanut butter and jelly, dirt, Popsicle, or Play-Dough for even a photo shoot. The only white I ever wore when caring for a newborn was the spots of spit-up that had dried on my clothes and years later, it's still a challenging color for me.

Is this Hollywood magic? Industrial size Tide To-Go pens? WHAT IS THE SECRET?!

Angelina Jolie says family is "chaos"

As the world will know soon enough if it doesn't already, Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt are debuting the pictures of their newborn twins today. Courtesy of People Magazine, who reportedly paid $14 million for the pictures, which will be given to a charity of the Jolie-Pitt's choice, the pictures feature mom and dad with the newborn twins and big sister Shiloh holding a babe.

Says Angelina Jolie about her ever-expanding family, which now clocks in at six, the brood is "chaos." She means that in a good way, of course, but how could it be otherwise with that many children in the house? I have one child with another on the way and sometimes wonder how I'm going to get through my day! Twins Knox and Vivienne join Maddox, Pax, and Zahara as well as Shiloh.

Jolie adds that despite the zaniness, she and the family are having a great time. She also claims her daughters Shiloh and Zahara have taken on the role of "little mommies" by helping change the twins and pick out their clothes. Perhaps she can give us some hints and tips on how to get the older kids to help out with the new ones!

Congrats to the couple, who are clearly delighted with their newest additions!

Miley Cyrus selling condoms?

Miley Cyrus is starting to get a reputation as a bit of a naughty girl. She proudly professes her love of Sex and The City and allows herself to be photographed in all manner of undress. And when she is fully clothed, her outfits are sometimes more appropriate for a 25-year-old than a teen girl. Maybe all that is why the folks at LifeStyles Condoms think she would make a perfect spokesperson for their products.

Despite the fact that Miley is under the age of consent in most states, LifeStyles says they offered her $1 million to shill their products. "Pop culture proves that teens are more ready than ever to discuss the subject of sex," says Carol Carrozza, LifeStyle's VP of marketing, . "We believe that Miley is both influential and relatable to this afflicted set - and is the obvious choice to get the message of safe sex out to teens across America."

I can't argue with that. If Miley talked about safe sex, you can bet there would be lots of girls paying attention. The problem is that Miley can't talk about sex because she is a virgin and intends to stay that way until marriage. I know this is true because she has a purity ring to prove it. At any rate, Miley's rep say they haven't even received such an offer and would reject it if they did.

Kathy Hilton setting a better example for her kids

We all know that Paris Hilton likes to party. We also know that on at least one occasion, she didn't let her inebriated state stop her from getting behind the wheel of a car. She was convicted of driving while intoxicated back in 2006 and in 2007, she spent time in jail for violating the terms of her probation. While the responsibility for those bad decisions rests firmly on Paris' own shoulders, it sounds like her mom feels at least partly to blame.

Although Kathy Hilton has never had a drinking problem, she says Paris' issues made her want to set a better example for her family. In order to "walk the walk", she says she gave up drinking altogether and recently celebrated one year of sobriety.

Based on the behavior of her famous daughter, Kathy Hilton may not be a likely candidate for mother of the year, but I respect what she is trying to do. Children do learn by example and parents have a responsibility to try to set a good one. Unfortunately, that may have come too late for the Hilton kids. Just this past February, Kathy's 18-year-old son Barron got his own DWI.

Halle Berry going after intrusive photogs

Halle BerryI think being famous would be fun - to a point. For me, that point would be reached the moment I gave birth. Being photographed and hounded by fans might be kind of cool for a footloose and fancy-free girl, but I imagine it is a totally different story once children are involved.

It is definitely a problem for Halle Berry, who gave birth to her first child last March. Being followed by the paparazzi while out in public may be part of the celebrity job description, but being spied on while hanging out in your own back yard is most definitely not. But that is exactly how some recent photos of Berry and 4-month-old Nahla Ariela Aubry were obtained.

"The paparazzi have gone too far. [Gabriel] and I have always remained that we would never sell baby photos or otherwise exploit her in any way," Berry said in a statement.

The photos in question were distributed by Fame Pictures and published in several magazines as well as posted online. Justin Smith, a rep for Fame Pictures, doesn't deny that the photos were taken improperly and acknowledges that Berry has a right to protect her child. However, his half-hearted apology falls short with this statement: "Every Britney Spears backyard shot goes out, everyone publishes it and nothing happens," Smith said.

In other words, we got away with it with Britney, so why stop now? Apology notwithstanding, Berry's lawyer has filed a criminal complaint against Fame Pictures.

Nirvana cover baby now a teenager

Nirvana Nevermind cover babyIf there's one thing that's controversial among parents who blog, it's whether or not it's appropriate to post pictures of your children online. Some parents worry that it isn't safe, while others are concerned that their children will view it as an invasion of privacy when they get older. Still, there are plenty of parents out there (including Dooce, arguably the most famous parenting blogger) who have no problem using photos and/or real names.

Seventeen years ago, these kinds of issues hadn't ever been discussed. So when photographer Kirk Weddie called his friend Rick Elden to see if he could take some shots of Elden's young son Spencer in the pool, Rick didn't think much of it. A few months later, the Elden's were surprised when their infant son showed up on the side of Tower Record's building on Sunset Boulevard, in all his naked glory. A shot of Spencer in the swimming pool had become the cover for Nirvana's 1991 album Nevermind.

Nevermind was no small album -- 26 million copies sold -- and Spencer is now a 17-year-old. Spencer says that it's "kind of cool" being the Nirvana baby. Though he's spent some time in military school for bad behavior, Spencer will likely be graduating high school a year early this summer. I'm curious what his parents thought when they first saw that billboard for the first time. Were they mad? Did they wish that they had had a chance to give permission? Maybe they were excited about their young son's fame, or concerned about his privacy. It's hard to say, things being so much different then.

If you're a parenting blogger, do you take measures to protect your child's privacy?

Family Ties kid all grown up and getting in trouble

Family Ties castLast year, former Family Ties actor Brian Bonsall made headlines when he was arrested and convicted of third degree assault. You may remember Bonsall as Michael J. Fox's little brother, Andy, on the popular 1980's sitcom. After his conviction last year, the now 26-year-old Boulder, Colorado resident was sentenced to two years' probation for pouring a drink on his girlfriend, grabbing her in a choke-hold and throwing her down on the bed when she tried to leave. Nice.

Today, he's back in the headlines for failing to abide by the terms of his probation. He is accused of not paying for his court-ordered domestic-violence classes, missing his daily alcohol checks and testing positive for at least one breathalyzer test that he did take. But it gets worse. He was due in court yesterday to face those charges and failed to show. The judge in the case is expected to issue a warrant for his arrest today.

Sadly, a former child star getting in trouble isn't all that unusual. But what really gets me is the photos that accompany the article. From sweet-faced little boy to rough-looking criminal, it is enough to break any parent's heart.
